Privacy Policy

Our Commitment to Privacy

SMS Courier is built with privacy as a core principle. We believe your messages are your business, and we've designed our app to ensure they stay that way. This policy explains how SMS Courier handles your data—spoiler: we don't collect any.

Data We Collect: None

SMS Courier does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to external servers. We have no analytics, no crash reporting, no telemetry, and no tracking of any kind. Your usage of the app is completely private.

How Message Forwarding Works

When you use SMS Courier to forward messages between devices:

  • Messages are sent directly via your carrier's SMS network
  • No internet connection is required for message forwarding
  • Messages never pass through our servers (we don't have any)
  • We cannot read, access, or intercept your messages—it's technically impossible

Data Stored on Your Device

SMS Courier stores the following data locally on your device only:

  • Pairing information: The phone number of your paired device
  • Session password: Stored as a secure bcrypt hash (never in plain text)
  • App preferences: Your settings and configuration choices

This data never leaves your device. Uninstalling the app removes all stored data.

SMS Permissions

SMS Courier requests RECEIVE_SMS and SEND_SMS permissions. Here's exactly how we use them:

RECEIVE_SMS

Used to receive incoming messages for forwarding to your paired device, and to receive pairing commands during device-to-device setup via SMS.

SEND_SMS

Used to forward messages to your paired device and to send pairing commands during device-to-device setup via SMS.

How We Use These Permissions

We use these SMS permissions solely for:

  • Device-to-device pairing via SMS commands
  • Forwarding SMS messages between your paired devices
  • All processing is done locally on your devices

No SMS data leaves your devices. Messages are sent directly between your paired devices via your carrier's SMS network. We have no servers, no cloud storage, and no way to access your messages—by design.

We do not request access to your contacts, location, camera, microphone, or any other sensitive permissions beyond what's required for core SMS functionality.

Third-Party Services

SMS Courier does not integrate any third-party services. There are no analytics SDKs (like Google Analytics or Firebase), no crash reporting services, no advertising networks, and no social media integrations. The app is built entirely with standard Android libraries.

Open Source Transparency

SMS Courier is open source. You can verify everything in this privacy policy by reviewing our source code on GitLab. We believe transparency is the best privacy policy.

Children's Privacy

SMS Courier does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children under 13. Since we collect no data at all, this concern is inherently addressed by our design.

Changes to This Policy

If we ever change this privacy policy, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date above. Given our commitment to privacy, any changes would only strengthen protections, never weaken them.
